We are all logicians in our daily lives, whether we think of ourselves that way or not. In lesson 2 of Logic, the discussion of evasions is continued. There are multiple evasions of the Law of Rationality, and we must take care not to fall into them in our reasoning. Towards the end of this lesson, syllogisms and propositions are introduced.

In this sixth lesson, Mac Deaver analyzes negative sentences, translates exceptive sentences, and begins the topic of equivalent propositions starting with obversion.

Continuing the thought of equivalent propositions, Mac Deaver illustrates conversion: reversing the order of subject and predicate relationship. He also discusses contraposition, the enthymeme, and what constitutes a sound argument.

Logic: 8. Seven Relations; Square of Opposition
The eighth lesson considers the 7 relationships among propositions: the independence of a statement, the equivalence of statements, the contradiction of statements, the contrariety of statements, the subcontrariety of statements, the superimplication of statements, and the subimplication of statements. He also shows the square of opposition that illustrates the relationships between propositions.

Logic: 9. Laws of Thought
In the final class, Mac Deaver talks about the traditional laws of thought. Humans, made in God’s image, are beings of ration and reason. He discusses the law of identity, the law of excluded middle, and the law of contradiction. He also talks about the types of compound propositions, and the dilemma in logic.
